Aflatoxin G1

Aflatoxin G1 is a naturally occurring mycotoxin produced by the same species of fungi that produce aflatoxin B1 and B2, namely Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticusAflatoxin G1 is structurally similar to aflatoxin B1, but it has a slightly different chemical structure due to a hydroxyl group in a different position on the molecule. Like other aflatoxins, aflatoxin G1 is a potent carcinogen and is associated with an increased risk of liver cancer in humans and animals. It can also cause other health problems such as acute toxicity, immunosuppression, and growth impairment. Aflatoxin G1 is regulated by many countries and organizations along with other aflatoxins, and efforts are made to prevent its contamination in food and feed.
